    1932 Student Council Fountain Restoration

Completed - 2018

The Student Council Patio Fountain was a gift from the first graduating class of 1932, and completed in 1936. The fountain went through a series of transformations resulting in disrepair.

In 2009 the Board of the TJHSHPS moved to conduct a feasibility study of the possible restoration of the Student Council Patio Fountain, SAISD was contacted for approval and counsel. It was determined that the District and the school that TJHSHPS would fund the entire project.

Through years of discussion and negotiations, the Board came together in 2012 and requested a master plan from Landscape Architect James Grey of Rialto Studios which was presented and approved by the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation and the Texas Historical Commission. In 2017 Guido Contractors were placed as the General contractors.

The next order of business was to raise the funds needed. Through the generous donations of The Phyllis Schoenner Foundation, the Bernard Rappaport Foundation, the Myra Stafford Pryor Trust, the Moerner Gift Fund, and donations from alumnae, the Board raised the amount needed and thus began the restoration process.

In 2018 the fountain was completed. The rededication took place on November 10, 2018. This collaboration was through the support of the Principal and Staff of Thomas Jefferson High School, The City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation, and the San Antonio Independent School District.
